Getting Started Section

This page seems to me to be very bewildering to a newbie. Could we restructure it such that there is a "getting started" section near the beginning with links to newbie friendly resources? We could push the more in-depth information down a bit. If you're at that level of sophistication, you probably won't mind. Craig Stickel 10:30, June 6, 2012 [MST]

Language-specific "Getting Started" Articles

This does not matter for most, but beginner articles could be separated into sub-categories by language (or "not language-specific"). I'm sure many people are familiar with just one and might be discouraged to have to dig around to find one relevant for their language of choice.

Why not write a 'Getting started in Roguelike development' article and link it from the main page? Include links to How to Write a Roguelike in 15 Steps, the Roguelike Dev FAQ and the rec.games.roguelike.development newsgroup near the top and link to any articles you consider 'beginner' divided by language. I agree, if someone creates this page I can help with some content (I'm writing a RL tutorial after all...) Jotaf 02:16, 2 June 2010 (UTC)

LoS, Fov

I am moving references to all FoV/LoS articles to those two pages (and ray casting/shadow casting/permissive fov pages). It is impossible to tell by looking at the titles of the articles what method is described and why you might want to use that method rather than another. This will be explained in the appropriate pages with links to the articles. Duerig 04:47, 27 Apr 2007 (CEST)

They are now moved. I think this provides a cleaner and more useful interface for somebody trying to figure out how they want to deal with LoS/FoV. However, it not doesn't quite conform to the rest of the page. If the current state is objectionable, I can put the links back and perhaps use sub-headings to classify them here in addition to describing them on the respective pages. Categories

If I cannot find a sufficiently good place to put an article, should I make a new category? --Harblcat 06:32, 10 February 2009 (CET)
