Usage background

This review is for the Beta Period 3 release played on Windows XP in Japanese.

General impressions

DarkHall has a similar feel to the the middle games in the Wizardry series. It has a 3D graphical display (similar to Eye of the Beholder) with mouse and keyboard controls. The interface is a little clunky in places, but it is still a beta release and I expect it will improve.

Roguelike?

Technically it is a bit dubious as to whether it should be called roguelike (for example the dungeons are not randomly generated and death does not kill save files). However it is a Open Source turn-based fantasy CRPG, which is close enough for me. Other games that are only somewhat roguelike include SCOURGE and Privateer: Ascii Sector.
