Auto-blocking of accounts

An account will be blocked automatically if its first edit is to its own user page or user talk page and it does not contain any newlines.

A few easy ways to avoid being blocked accidentally:

  • Make your first edit to the Sandbox, or find a page that needs corrections.
  • Include newlines! Most spambots don't use newlines, so it's an easy way around the filter. Note that newlines at the end of a page aren't included; there must be text following a newline for it to count.

If you do get blocked by mistake, see the Community portal for ways to contact an admin.

Technical notes: This site uses the AbuseFilter extension to auto-block users. The relevant filter on this wiki is filter 6.
