The roguebasin is a wiki which seeks to become the main depot of all information regarding roguelikes, including a collection of the existing projects and games, an encyclopedia of genre-related topics, a directory of developers and a collection of development tips and articles.

The RogueBasin thus seeks to be an up to date and complete repository of all information regarding the roguelike subgenre, fuelled by the cooperative efforts of all roguelike developers and players around the globe.

History

The wiki was conceptualized and setup initially by Slash, back to January 26 2005. It immediately caught the attention of the roguelike community, which for a long time was in need of a place to store all of its empiric knowledge, history and current status of the genre.

The initial version of RogueBasin was hosted in the swiki.net wiki service; however after about one month of operation and some blackouts, the service proved to be too unstable for the needs of the community and it was decided that the wiki had to move.

Several alternatives were under study, but it was with the help of DarkGod and Pav that RogueBasin found a second home at http://roguebasin.t-o-m-e.net, where it resided until August 2006 surviving several spambot raids and growing on content.

Such spam raids forced to restrict edition to registered users and to block the creation of new user accounts, except through an alternate process, thus reducing the usefulness of roguebasin as a collaborative edition media.[1]. It was then decided[2] that a caring administrative crew should stand for it, allowing for things such as safe user account creation; in August 2 2006 the wiki was moved to roguelikedevelopment.org, this was possible because of the joint efforts of Bjorn Ritzl and DarkGod.

On June 19 2011, RogueBasin was moved by Björn to a new and more reliable webhost and the www.roguebasin.com domain was set up.

On August 2011, registrations had to be disabled again due to large spambot attacks and seemingly inefficient captcha protection. It was then that Slashware Interactive, lead by Slash, was entrusted as the technical maintainer for the wiki, having enhancing spambot protection as its first goal.
