Housing
I have reserved 12 rooms for 06.11-08.11 on site at CERN under reservation key "IRDC09". Check out time is 12:00 noon and the rooms cost 58 Swiss Francs per night (that's 38 Euro or 60 Canadian Dollars or 33 British Quid or 55 United States Bucks :)
You have to call the CERN housing service YOURSELF(!) and confirm with them. They will give you further instructions on payment etc... The phone number is 0041 22 767 44 81.
If you want to stay longer or have a better (=more expensive) room, tell the friendly lady on the phone :)
Here's the URL with more information: http://housing-service.web.cern.ch/housing-service/
09/09/21: When I called the reception today, I was told they'd prefer to have the confirmation be done via email, after all. Something about it being easier to remember. (Johanna)
09/09/24: Anyone else managed to contact them by email? 3 days and no answer. (Ido)
09/09/25: Do you want me to check with them again? Usually it takes them 1-2 days to answer. But we have a couple of conferences on-site and off-site these days... (Mario)
09/09/25: Same here. I sent another email yesterday after 3 days of waiting and got a prompt reply that I should talk to the organizer instead because they don't have the names of the workshop participants. WTF? Time for another phone call, I guess. *sighs* (Johanna)
09/09/26 Ah okay, I'm gonna give them the list of names. They didn't ask for it in the first place. No need to call them and sorry for the confusion. Update: just submitted the list of names. (Mario)
09/09/26: Ok now - got confirmation for a room. (Ido)
09/09/30: So no need to call/email/confirm anything? (Dirk)
09/09/30: Dirk, everyone needs to register with the hostel himself. So please write them an email and they should respond within 24 hours. (Mario)
09/09/30: URL is asking me for a login/password. I've tried sending an e-mail to housing.service @ the domain, but am not sure it will work. Can anyone confirm the contact address? I've booked flights now - arriving Friday at 2:35pm in Cointrin. (Darren Grey)
09/10/01: Darren: the email address is cern.hostel@cern.ch
Venue
I have a confirmed booking for the conference room as well. It is equipped with a projector, computer and has space for ~20 people.
Equipment
- Camcorder: Jeff Lait (Maybe I'll turn on the gain adjust so we don't have 10 hours of darkness this year? <- Except for the obligatory Dark Cabal shot, of course)
- Tripod: I have a tripod here. So no need to bring one. (Mario)
- Food: Restaurant-1 on site is excellent (Mario)
- <add anything else you can bring or think we need>
