Recreant is a traditional roguelike that rewards patience and planning. You are a sinner, cast into a dungeon littered with horrors to pay for your misdeeds. This dark place is haunted by other desperate penitents along with corrupted evils determined to end your life.

Pay attention to your attack and movement delay. Heavy weapons can do a lot of damage but are slow and can leave you exposed to counterattacks. Heavy armour adds a lot of protection, but you could find youself lacking mobility and unable to flee when the tide of battle turn against you. Light is important to see your enemies, but remember that it also helps them see you. The terrifying darkness might actually be the safest place of all. Beware the revenants with their necrotic touch, and the devious giant spiders with their deadly venom.

Stamina is used to perform special manuevers in combat. It is replenished through eating food rations. Health does not regenerate on its own, but the dungeon contains many sources of healing througout. Morale shows your resilience in combat - it is decreased by each enemy you see, but increased by the sight of each ally. For each morale point below 5, you are less effective in combat. Intoxicating yourself before combat can help, but at the expense of your finesse and intellect.

The game is still in active development. Many features are in the process of being implemented or completely unimplemented, but the game is very playable. The online version does not allow for saved games or persistent dungeon levels, but is available without those features for testing purposes. The proper release will contain those features.
