Steven Black learned to program so he could cheat at Roguelike games.
Since 2001 he's been working on a library to help him develop Roguelike games. He's redesigned it and changed the language numerous times. As can be expected, this process prevented him from releasing in a timely manner.
In September of 2011 he posted the announcement of the release of Blacken 1.0. Blacken is a library for the development of Roguelike games using Java's AWT. Since that time he's known to haunt the public forums.
