Wilderness

Wilderness can generally be defined as an open-air area, without strict size limits, unlike a confined dungeon or other structure. A major use of wilderness areas is to allow a larger world with multiple dungeons.
Rogue and traditional roguelikes (including NetHack and Angband) have not implemented such an environment. Larn is credited as the first game of the genre with more than one dungeon and a surface world to travel between them.
