Overview

Three Against the Odds is a single-player, non-traditional roguelike/strategy hybrid in which you play a civilization of Frogs (Frogkind), seeking to return to their homeland. The game setting is sword and sorcery but in a world where human civilizations collapsed and only vestiges remain.

"In each cycle of crisis, three heroes shall arise from our people to meet the challenge...always there are three." --- The Wizened One

Features

  • A fixed world grid. Instead of descending or exploring a world, the focus is more on defending your settlement
    • Yet you may teleport your entire plateau to new climate zones such as desert, jungle, arctic, antarctic
  • Permadeath after the death of three heroes or the destruction of your settlement by fire, starvation or enemy invasion
  • Light resource management of food, stone, wood, treasure, however no micromanagement
  • Three campaigns with the first campaign having three different final bosses and associated henchmen
  • Use upgrade points towards adaptations which persist after hero death or abilities which are lost upon hero death
  • Choose abilities from three distinct schools (a bit like classes) or become a Knave and choose one ability from each school, sacrificing total ability amount
  • Remain a basic frog or evolve into three other subspecies
    • The tree-dwelling, poison-resistant Canopogs
    • The ocean dwelling Frogshoi (sworn enemies of the fishy Froshoi)
    • The mighty, zombie-taming Frok
  • Gain Energy Cards with many uses
    • Terraform the surrounding terrain
    • Craft items
    • Gain resources
    • Enhance your towers and defenses
  • Build towers and walls to protect your settlement from siege enemies, tidal waves or other hazards
  • Manage an Alchemist and Forge and utilize a Shop stocked by your trade caravan
  • Purchase gems and items from wandering merchants
  • Fish the rivers for lost coins, 20 variety of trophy fish based on climate, allies or monsters
  • Many potions, wands, scrolls, weapons and other artifacts
  • Monsters determined by surrounding terrain that can be terraformed over time

Interface

  • Hotkeys and shortcut binding to items/adaptations/abilities
  • Movement by keyboard and mouse
  • Configurable key bindings but with some limitations/reserved keys
  • Sound Effects and Music but either or both may be disabled
